Description:
Last year, UNESCO declared Mariachi music, Cultural Patrimony of Humanity. As part of this presentation, Mariachi Imperial will demonstrate the role each instrument plays in a Mariachi ensemble, the different rhythms: son, cancin, ranchera, polka, and bolero and the most important songs. Also featured will be film clips of classic Mariachi superstars, such as Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante and Javier Solis and the composer Jose Alfredo Jimenes. The lecture will be illustrated with projections of art inspired by music, such as the murals of Bonampak, Rufino Tamayos murals in Mexicos national Conservatory and the Teatro de los Insurgentes by Diego Rivera, among others.
